Walking Toward God’s Beloved Community

The work of reconciliation begins with holy conversation — the kind that creates authentic community for all of God’s beloveds. Nebraska Disciples are committed to listening deeply, learning honestly, and walking together toward the wholeness God intends for the world.

Walking the Road: A Civil Rights Pilgrimage

I grew up in Alabama, where the stories of the Civil Rights Movement are woven into the landscape itself. I have stood in the shadow of 16th Street Baptist Church, crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, and prayed at the jail where Dr. King wrote his Letter from Birmingham Jail. Seeing members of our region make this pilgrimage reminded me that the work of reconciliation and justice is not someone else’s story. It is part of our shared calling as followers of Jesus. – Rev. Robin Blakemore, Transitional Regional Minister

In 2025, three Nebraska Disciples made a pilgrimage. Tom Mason, Sally Mason, and D’Arcy Blosser traveled from Atlanta to Montgomery, to Selma, to Jackson, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee — walking in the footsteps of civil rights activists and heroes. They visited the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. They crossed the Edmund Pettus Bridge. They sat with civil rights leaders and learned what it means to demand justice for all of God’s people.

CCN believes that this kind of formation — embodied, relational, place-based — has the power to transform how we lead and serve. We hope to offer pilgrimages like this one to more Nebraska Disciples in the coming years. Racial justice is where we begin. Immigration, Indigenous History, and Climate Justice may follow. If you want to be part of what comes next, we want to hear from you.

Pro-reconciling/Anti-racist Initiative

The Pro-reconciling/Anti-racist Initiative invites the church into the ongoing work of making God’s beloved community visible — listening to the wisdom of racial and ethnic communities, studying scripture together, and allowing that formation to transform how we lead and serve.

Immigration & Welcome

In October 2025, Disciples Women sponsored an Immigration 101 event featuring a video from Brian Frederick Gray (Disciples Home Missions) and Grace Kozak (Week of Compassion). This event helped Nebraska Disciples understand the current immigration landscape and their call to respond.
