Congregational Certifications & Designations
Some of the most meaningful commitments a congregation can make are ones they make publicly — to their community, to the denomination, and to each other. The following programs offer Nebraska Disciples congregations a pathway to formally commit to and be recognized for their work in environmental stewardship, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and ministry with older adults.
For Nebraska congregations, the Green Chalice designation is especially meaningful. We worship amid prairie and farmland, along rivers and in growing cities. We know that our well-being is tied to the health of the soil beneath our feet and the communities around us. To be Green Chalice is to recognize that caring for creation is woven through worship, mission, and stewardship as an expression of faithful discipleship in this particular place.

For Nebraska congregations, the Open & Affirming designation — supported through Alliance Q, the Disciples LGBTQ+ affirming ministry — is an opportunity to make a public commitment to hospitality, justice, and belonging.
In communities large and small, Open & Affirming congregations seek to ensure that LGBTQ+ people are welcomed not only at the door, but into the full life, ministry, and leadership of the church. To be Open & Affirming is to affirm that every person is a beloved child of God whose gifts strengthen the Body of Christ.
